Who is Our Tallest ESLT Member?

This San Diego native stands 6 feet, 11 inches tall and is a three-time recipient of the NCAA Basketball Player of the Year Award. His resume includes achieving childhood dreams like being part of the UCLA Bruins two consecutive undefeated NCAA basketball titles in 1972 and 1973, and being selected as the MVP of the 1977 NBA Finals.

Off the court he continues to receive leadership and humanitarian awards and honorable recognition as a superb sports broadcaster and commentator.  You might even recognize him from television commercial endorsements like Google, Guinness, Tostitos or Reebok;  or maybe from the Howard Stern Show, The Wheel of Fortune or Shark Tank.

Yet here at the Eastern Sierra Land Trust we know him as one of our committed supporters and an active participant in our Lands and Legacy Weekend.

Who is he? He’s Bill Walton!

Bill will be joining other ESLT riders on Saturday July 21st as they pedal along one of the most scenic roadways in America – the 23 mile June Lake Loop. The ride will include a gourmet “feed” station, a chair-lift ride to a casual lunch at June Mountain Ski Area, a limited edition ESLT Fun Ride t-shirt, and many photo and conversational opportunities with Bill.

Walton is also quite the fan of The Grateful Dead, and is often referred to as “Grateful Red.” The Gala dinner sponsored by Mammoth Mountain Ski Area on Saturday, July 21 will include a reception, dinner, silent auction, and live music featuring The Flashbacks. Bill loves The Flashbacks.

“This terrific event brings together all that is right in the world and life: the magnificent Eastern Sierra, health, sport, the team, riding our bikes with purpose and passion, and the chance to make a difference in all of our futures,” says Bill. “Preserving land forever does really matter on many, many levels. Won’t you come with us and enjoy the ride?”  Buy your ticket here!
