Catch the Buzz: Tour Local Pollinator Gardens

Pollinator PlaqueHave you noticed the “Certified Pollinator Habitat” plaques that have been popping up on fence posts and garden gates throughout the Eastern Sierra?

For the past three years, many locals have been hard at work creating beautiful native plant gardens. These blooming natural spaces offer more than aesthetic value: they are designed to provide much-needed habitat for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. With guidance from Eastern Sierra Land Trust’s Eastside Pollinator Garden Project, participating gardeners are helping keep the Eastern Sierra beautiful and productive by providing a home for pollinators.

Want to learn more and see these beautiful gardens in bloom? From 10am – 2pm on June 4, take the opportunity to tour many of these stunning gardens in person! ESLT and Chalfant Big Trees Farm & Feed are teaming up to organize a free, self-guided tour of the Eastern Sierra’s certified pollinator gardens.

Attendees are encouraged to visit gardens at their own pace, and may choose to visit as many of the participating gardens as desired. Many gardeners will be available in person to answer questions and offer insight into the process of creating their pollinator havens. In order for gardeners to know when to expect visitors, the self-guided tour will take place during the following specific timeframes in our different Eastern Sierra towns:

  • Lone Pine and Independence: 10 – 11am
  • Big Pine: 10:30 – 11:30am
  • Bishop: 11am – 12:30pm
  • Chalfant Valley: 12:30 – 2pm

In addition, all garden tour hosts and participants are invited to join Chalfant Big Trees Farm & Feed for a complimentary lunch, featuring brick-oven pizza baked on-site by Mark Wagner’s Mobile Bread Pizza Oven!

To participate in the tour and receive an Eastern Sierra Pollinator Garden Tour Map, please contact Catherine Tao, ESLT Education Coordinator & AmeriCorps member, at: catherine@eslt.org or (760) 873-4554.
